Parents have been advised to raise their children with values and caution them against greed or get rich quick syndrome for them not to be exposed to human traffickers.
The Executive Director, Hope For Second Chance Foundation, HOSEC, Mrs Ibukunoluwa Otesile gave the advise during the foundation’s sensitization outreach against trafficking in persons, held at Ojoo Motor Park, Ibadan.

The sensitization outreach was in commemoration of this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Mrs. Otesile who identified greed as one of the major elements traffickers feed on to attract their victims to trafficking noted that parents must inculcate quality values and endeavor to meet the needs that would help them achieve their dreams.
The counseling psychologist explained that children should also be raised in a way that will empower them to ask questions and double check facts especially in cases where people offer them outrageous proposals.
While highlighting anxiety of the victim during interrogation in the first contact, as one of the major factors in identifying a potential victim, Mrs. Otesile said the drivers and park managers needed to be sensitized on the dangers of child trafficking because of their nature of work.
Mrs. Otesile said survivors of human trafficking are always not comfortable to share their experiences because of the lack of trust, urging individuals close to them not be judgmental or stigmatize them.
She “It takes a lots of patience to engage and interact with them, you just have to keep reassuring them, it’s okay if they are not comfortable to express themselves. You need to let them know that you are not desperate, and not interested in the story for personal interest”
“Every interaction must be in their best interest, though it takes time to open up and share” She said
