Govt. Unveils One Week Activities For Oyo State 50th Anniversary

Oyo State Government has unveiled a week-long programme of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.

The line up of activities including religious services, cultural exhibitions, award and dinner night and a public lecture titled “Consolidating the legacy, navigating the present and reimagining the future”

Chairman, committee of the 50th anniversary, a former member of the House of Representative, Mr Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, reeled out the activities at a press briefing held at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

Mr Akinade-Fijabi said the golden jubilee programme was structured to combine reflection, thanksgiving, intellectual engagement and cultural celebration, in line with the future-driven vision of Governor Seyi Makinde.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, the festivities would begin on January 26th with Governor Seyi Makinde’s speech at UI, through to 3rd of February, with a dinner night to honor distinguished citizens and contributors to the state’s development.

Other activities include Health Outreach in the 33 LGAs, Film Show in the 6 geo-political zones, Carnival, Symposium and Lectures, Religious services, Sports, and empowerment program for women.

A renowned nigerian economist and the executive chairman African Centre for Shared for Development Capacity Building,Ibadan,Professor Olu Ajakaye would deliver keynote address on the theme of the state anniversary: “Consolidating the Legacy;Navigating the present and re-imagining the future”.

Oyo State was created on 3rd of February, 1976, from the former Western Region of Nigeria, with Ibadan serving as its administrative capital.
