FRSC Backtracks On New Request Seeking FG’s Permission To Bear Arms

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC has denied any new attempt requesting the federal government’s permission to grant the commission the legal backing to carry fire arms

In a statement made by FRSC Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem, the commission said the statement credited to the representative of the Corps Marshal at the Passing Out Parade of Cadets at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kotangora, Niger State, does not reflect the current position of the Corps Marshal and the management team.

The statement reads:

“The attention of the FRSC has just been drawn to a report that the Corps Marshal is seeking the permission of the Federal Government for the personnel of the Corps to bear arms.

“The said eronous statement credited to the representative of the Corps Marshal at the Passing Out Parade of Cadets at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) . Kotangora, Niger State , does not reflect the current position of the Corps Marshal and the management team.

“Members of the public should therefore take note.

Recall that The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday said there is a need for its personnel to bear firearms in discharging their duties, considering the level of security challenges across the country.

The Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, made this known on Saturday while inaugurating 1,762 personnel of the corps who just concluded their four-month basic course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger.

Mr Biu, who was represented by Shehu Zaki, a deputy corps marshal, said that the measure would ensure adequate protection for the personnel who were often attacked in the course of duty by some road users or suspected criminals who take advantage of the security challenges in the country.

    For Federal Government to grant fire arms to FRSC,
    By the grace of God, I will advise My people in the sector to find a way of getting another job,
    Because I don’t want them to become criminals,
    I used to tell My people in the sector that out of every forces in the Country FRSC is the most condemnable to the majority of Nigeria Citizens,
    While people believe that they will misuses the opportunity by firering people,
    My personal opinion, Thanks.
