Alhaji Abolade Salami, a veteran broadcaster and the group general manager of FRESH FM NIGERIA, has distanced himself from a report that he has been named a member of the media and publicity committee for the re-election of Engineer Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.
Alhaji Salami denied ever applying to join the Media and Publicity Committee to support Seyi Makinde’s reelection campaign in a statement given to the media in Ibadan on Thursday night by the Ace broadcaster.
Alhaji Salami pleaded with the populace to ignore the article.
The statement personally signed by Alhaji Abolade Salami reads:
“My attention has been drawn to a publication on the social media that I have been appointed as a member of the Media and Publicity committee for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde and I hereby decline the offer due to my position as a serving media executive with indepth knowledge of the ethics of my profession.
“I am not a member of any committee whatsoever set up by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde or any of his aides for his re-election or any political activity in any form. I am not a member of any political party and neither am I involved in any political activity in any way.
“With a practice spanning over four decades, I am a seasoned professional, and broadcast journalist of note without any partisan relationship of any kind with any political party while I strictly observe the code and ethics of our profession which forbid partisanship and political leanings.
“The Fresh FM radio station which I work for has a strong policy on objectivity and non-partisanship in its entire operations and would never sacrifice that for anything”.
The general public is hereby advised to disregard the falsehood already trending in the social media and take it with a pinch of salt as I am not permitted by my professional calling to be partisan”. He concluded
