Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state.

The official defection ceremony took place at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, where party supporters and key stakeholders gathered to welcome the governor into the ruling party.

Governor Fintiri had earlier, in February 2026, announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside members of his cabinet.

Speaking at the event, the governor said his move was guided by the need to advance development in Adamawa State and align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dignitaries present at the reception included Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by its chairman, Hope Uzodinma.
