Fed. College of Education, Oyo, Lines Up 17th Convocation Programme, To Graduate Over 13,000 Students

Briefing newsmen on the event, the outgoing Provost of the college, Prof. Kamoru Olayiwola Usman listed Blind Football matches to be played at the institution’s sports arena as part of the weeklong activities lined up.

The college has a sizeable population of blind students and lecturers, also known as the visually impaired. Hence the novelty football game which holds today 10th July, 2023 and Wednesday 12th July promises to be a wonder among the list of activities slated for the convocation.

A vocational and technology exhibition comes up Tuesday while the convocation lecture, with the topic “Discrimination Against Persons With Disability Act 2018: Implementation, Opportunities and Challenges” holds same Wednesday 12th July. The lecture will be delivered by the Registrar/Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, Prof. J. O. Ajiboye.

Other activities listed by the Provost include a musical concert coming up tomorrow, convocation play holding 12th July and project commissioning on 13th July.

The convocation ceremony which comes up on Thursday 13th July would be rounded up with an inter – denominational thanksgiving service at the college chapel on Sunday 16th July.

Speaking further on the convocation, the Provost, Prof. Usman disclosed that 13,364 graduands will be officially conferred with the Nigeria Certificate in Education, NCE in various disciplines of special education.

He added that since 1980 when the college produced its first set of graduates, other sets including foreign students have graduated from the institution.

Among the one hundred and fifty eight colleges of education in Nigeria, Federal College of Education, Special, Oyo is reputed to be the only one of its kind out the thirty two Federal Colleges of Education having the largest concentration of students with disabilities that could be found in any higher institution in the country.
