Expert Identifies Common Causes Of Deformity In Children
Director, Physiotherapy department, UCH, Ibadan, Mrs Muibat Akintayo says some health conditions that cause damage to the brain of a child during child birth are major factors responsible for deformity in children.
Mrs Akintayo made this known at the UCH physiotherapy departmental get together for physically challenged children in Oyo state, an annual event which was initiated over fifty year ago.
She highlighted meningitis, jundis, careless handling of babies during delivery as some of the common factors that had contributed to a number of deformity in children.
Mrs Akintayo however used the opportunity of the occassion to appeal to governments at all levels to implement policies that uplift the living standard of people with disability in the country.
The expert who said it was imperative for the physical challenged to have easy access to public buildings, advocated for their inclusion in the national health insurance scheme of the federal government.
She explained that the event was organized In an effort to make over 400 physically challenged children in Oyo state feel the mood of the festive season.
Chairperson of the planning committee, Mrs Oyinlola Kehinde said the event was to help the children feel a sense of belonging during the festive season and to raise awareness on the need for members of the public to care for them..
Two parents of the beneficiaries, Mrs Awelewa Temitope and Mrs Okome Folorunso who were elated with the quality of gifts and hospitality given to the children, showered encomium on the Physiotherapy department for their yearly gesture.
