Egbe Bobaselu Stands Firm Behind Onigbeti, Rejects Omidiji’s Allegations of Smuggling

The EGBE BOBASELU, a respected social group in Igbeti, has once again strongly supported the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Engr. Bashir Olalekan Abioye Siyanbola (IV), in the wake of recent allegations by Ponmile Omidiji, who claimed that the monarch was involved in smuggling activities within the community.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the group emphasized that they have never witnessed the Onigbeti engaging in any form of smuggling or being involved in the criminal activities alleged by Omidiji.

The EGBE BOBASELU further clarified that, since Siyanbola IV assumed the throne, his leadership has been characterized by peace, stability, and progress for the community.

The EGBE BOBASELU categorically rejected Ponmile Omidiji’s baseless claims, insisting that the monarch has always upheld the law and led with integrity.

The group noted that Siyanbola IV has consistently shown a commitment to peace and unity in the community, stating that Igbeti has flourished under his leadership.

“The EGBE BOBASELU stands with the Onigbeti and firmly rejects any insinuations of wrongdoing. We have never witnessed Siyanbola IV engage in any illicit activities, including smuggling, nor have we seen any indication of his involvement in any of the claims being made by Ponmile Omidiji,” the group stated.

The group also highlighted that Siyanbola IV’s leadership has been widely praised by community members, noting that his reign has brought stability and prosperity to the Igbeti Kingdom. Since he took over his father’s stool, the community has experienced smooth governance, and things have been progressing in a positive direction.

“Since the Onigbeti ascended the throne, the community has been in a state of peace. There has been no record of any unrest or instability. The people of Igbeti have continued to commend his leadership, which has been characterized by order and cohesion,” the group emphasized.

The EGBE BOBASELU reiterated its stance against Ponmile Omidiji’s actions, which have been consistently disruptive and detrimental to the peace of the community.

The group condemned Omidiji’s violent and intimidatory tactics, including his storming of the Onigbeti Palace with firearms on October 24, 2025, where he reportedly threatened the palace staff and residents.

“We cannot condone the actions of Ponmile Omidiji, whose violent and destabilizing conduct is threatening the peace we have enjoyed in Igbeti. It is clear that Omidiji’s actions are designed to create division and disorder in our community,” the group stated.

The EGBE BOBASELU emphasized that the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Siyanbola IV, has always acted as a unifying force, promoting harmony within the community and resolving disputes among families. His leadership, they argued, has been a model of peace that has kept Igbeti strong and united.

“We continue to support the Onigbeti because his leadership represents peace, unity, and progress. His leadership has been instrumental in resolving conflicts and strengthening the bond within the community,” the group stated.

They also emphasized the importance of preserving the Onigbeti stool’s integrity, urging the public to disregard any attempts to drag the monarch into unfounded allegations that are not in line with his character or leadership style.

The EGBE BOBASELU called for an immediate investigation into Ponmile Omidiji’s actions and demanded that he be held accountable for his violent acts.

The group insisted that the authorities should intervene promptly to curb his disruptive behavior and prevent further threats to the peace and stability of Igbeti.

“We urge the authorities to take swift action and investigate the conduct of Ponmile Omidiji, whose behavior poses a significant threat to the safety and security of Igbeti. It is crucial that violence and intimidation are not allowed to undermine the progress we’ve made,” the group concluded.
