The plot to ensure that the current President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga does not emerge for second term tenure got thickened with the presentation of his opposition candidate, Barr. Niyi Ajewole to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II at his Alarere residence on Friday.
Members of the various socio-cultural groups and affiliates of the CCII in scores accompanied the contender to the Alarere residence of Oba Lekan Balogun on Friday to seek for the blessings of the monarch for the candidacy of the Ibadan-based lawyer to succeed Prince Adeaga in the election holding next month.
During the brief meeting witnessed by three of the members of the Olubadan Advisory Council, High Chiefs Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe (Osi-Balogun) Biodun Kola-Daisi (Ashipa Olubadan) and Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan) as well Baale Jagun who doubles as the Personal Assistant on Chieftaincy Matters to the Olubadan, Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, Barr. Ajewole was described as somebody who had sold himself to the services of Ibadanland since his youthful days.
In a press statement by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola made available to journalists in Ibadan, the group explained that the candidature of Ajewole received the support of all the stakeholders because of the firm belief and strong conviction that he would serve diligently.
it was also disclosed that “he enjoys the confidence of the people because of his respect for traditional institution and the holders of the traditional positions. We are convinced that he would give us the right kind of leadership the Ibadan people deserves in the apex Ibadan socio-cultural organizations”.
The group said it was part of the new orientation and awareness being brought into the CCII election that led to the presentation of Barr. Ajewole to the monarch before the submission of his nomination form which would take place just immediately after they might have left the presence of Olubadan and after His Imperial Majesty must have blessed him.
There and then, the candidate prostrated for the Olubadan, who thereafter prayed for his success at the poll and with a charge that he must at all times put in his consciousness the kind of support being mustered for him now if eventually he emerges and ensure that he does not disappoint the eminent personalities rooting for his success at the poll.
Olubadan equally charged that everybody involved in the activities leading to the CCII election and the conduct of the election must ensure that everything is done with brotherly love and with peace and tranquility of Ibadanland to be uppermost in their minds.
“As the father of all, I beseech you all to let brotherly love guide you in whatever you do and you know how concerned and passionate I’m about peace in the land, so, anything that would compromise that which I cherish much, I urge you to be mindful of it”, Olubadan added.
