Residents of Ilado, Imafon and Igunshin in Akure North local government area of Ondo state on Saturday stormed the Alagbaka area of the Akure metropolis protesting incessant killing and kidnapping of members of the communities by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

The protesters in their hundreds held leaves and chanted various solidarity songs even as they made passionate appeal to both security agencies and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to boost security in the affected communities.

During the protest which lasted over an hour, vehicular movements in and out of Oda and Igbatoro communities were halted as the protesters barricaded the popular oda- igbatoro-Alagbaka interchange, leaving the traffic light to tick away.

The people consisting of youths, women and farmers said killings and kidnappings in the areas had become daily routine as no fewer than ten people had been killed in the affected communities in the last three days.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria, one of the residents, Mr Rotimi Atere lamented that Imafon, Igunshin and Ilado were no longer safe as suspected herdsmen brazenly perpetrated their evil acts in the communities almost on a daily basis, leaving them in panic, especially at nights.
Another resident, Mr Odunayo Aluko who spoke in yoruba pointed out that they could no longer visit their farms as a result of fear of attack by gunmen, calling on government to enhance security in the communities.
There have been cases of kidnapping and killing in Ilado, Igunshin and imafon areas of Akure North local government area of Ondo state recently with the Police promising to bring perpetrators to Justice.
