Following the fire outbreak that engulfed some part of Akilapa Market in Ogunpa, Ibadan North West local government area of Oyo State, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA Ibadan Operations Office in collaboration with Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, OYSEMA have carried out on-the spot assessment of the incident.

The team led by NEMA Head of Operations, Mr. Olanrewaju Kadiri was conducted round on the assessment of incident to determine the impact of the destruction for necessary action.

Giving a report to stakeholders, the NEMA boss said over Fifteen shops were affected, with good and valuables worth millions of Naira lost to the inferno.

Newsarena.ng recalled that the fire outbreak occured on 9th February, 2026 at about 6 O’Clock in evening.
Mr Kadiri explained that the fire was as a result of generator combustion, which spread rapidly to other shops but was put out with the efforts of Fire Service and other relevant stakeholders.
While counting their losses, the affected shop owners pleaded to Federal Government through NEMA to support them for quick recovery.
Among the assessment team were NEMA,SEMA, Ibadan North West LGA Chairaman;Hon. Abdulraheem Olanrewaju Adepoju and chairperson of Akilapa Market, Ogunpa.
