Oyo NUJ Election: 14 Candidates Sign Peace Agreement

Fourteen out of Fifteen candidates contesting for various positions in the forthcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, on Sunday signed a peace accord at the state headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, Iyaganku, Ibadan.


The candidates are Comrades Adebayo Raji, (Correspondence),
Oladapo Olusola (Federal Ministry of Information), Akeem Abas (Correspondence), Atilola Abiodun (State Information), Adeniji Olamide(State Information), Adu Dayo (FRCN).

Others include Com.Imran Khalid,(Oke-Ogun),Animashaun Rofiah (NTA), Ishola Olamiposi (BCOS) Adebayo Abdul Rofih(BCOS ), Morenikeji Moses,(FRCN), Oladipo Bosede (NFTV) Akinjola Olubode(BCOS), and Alimi Nurudeen (Nigeria Tribune).

The only candidate absent from the signing exercise was Comrade Nwaoko Samuel of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper.

The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will hold its election on December 9, 2025.

Members will vie for key executive positions including Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Internal Auditor.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman of the 2025 Credentials Screening Committee, Comrade Ismail Fasasi, said the peace accord was necessary to ensure a free and fair election.

He urged the candidates and their supporters to maintain decorum and sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.

The chairman also assured them that the committee is committed to conducting a credible election.

“On behalf of the Screening Credentials Committee, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to this significant event, the official signing of the Peace Accord for the 2025 NUJ Election,” he said.

“This gathering demonstrates your commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credibility in the electoral process.

“The signing of this peace accord is a crucial step towards ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election. As we embark on this critical process, I urge all stakeholders to adhere to the principles outlined in the Peace Accord. Let us work together to create an environment that allows electorates to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”.

In their separate remarks, the representative of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, ACP Coker Shado; ,former Chairman of the Oyo State Council, Mogaji Soladoye Adewole; and Chairman Oyo State Council, Comrade Demola Babalola, admonished all the candidates to run an issue-based campaign, respect the rules and decisions of the electoral process, and accept the outcome of the elections in good faith.

They called on the candidates to give peace a chance before, during, and after the election.

They therefore urged the Credentials Screening Committee to remain neutral, transparent, and fully committed to conducting a free and fair election.

The event was attended by the Secretary Credentials Screening Committee, Com. Afolakemi Akanbi, Comrades Oluwakayode Banjo, Ismail Ogundeji, Olusegun Oyedokun, supporters, and other stakeholders.
