The Renewed Hope initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the Federal ministry of agriculture and food security and the office of the wife of Oyo state governor, Engineer Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, have supported over two hundred women in the agriculture sector.
The Programme which was held in Ibadan, had in attendance women and youths in agriculture.
Two facilitators at the Every home a garden initiative programme, Mrs Biliqis Abdulateef and Mr Hazzan Kifuli trained the participants on the best farming practices, irrigation system and marketing of produce if the need arose
A winner of the Every home a garden competition in Oyo state last year, Mrs Olukemi Fajemiyo advised women to be self reliant by embarking on subsistence farming.
In a remark,the Oyo state commissioner for special duties ,Alhaja Joke Sanni,encouraged the women to be involved in a small scale farming that could feed the whole family and could be extended to the neighbors.
While training the youth at the support programme organized for the youth,the Facilitators,Mr. Kehinde Olaleye and Mrs. Abisola Adeleke advised the youth on how to cultivate pepper plantation and yam seedlings.
Oyo state Head of service,Mrs Olubunmi Oni who represented the wife of the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Tamunominini Makinde said youth should geared up towards farming as it reduces unemployment to the barest minimum.
Mrs Makinde maintained that farming had provided employment opportunities,food sufficiency and sustainable livelihood for the people hence the need to be involved in farming.
According to some of the people who benefited from the Renewed Hope initiative,Grace Oluwagbotemi,Pelumi Adegboye and Funmilayo Oyekunle said the trainings had imparted them greatly noting that the Facilitators did a good job,thereby appreciating Senator Oluremi Tinubu,and Engineer Tamunominini Makinde for the gesture.
The beneficiaries promised to use the knowledge gained from the trainings to better their lives and the country at large.
The women and youths were given watering cans, seedlings,hoes,pesticides, fertilizer and cash gifts.
