A new National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has emerged for a three year tenure
He is Mr Alhasan Yahaya from Gombe state.
The new president was elected by delegates from all the state councils of the federation during the 8th National Triennial Delegates’ Conference held at the popular Sam Mbakwe Hall, Owerri, Imo State.
Announcing the results, chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Mike Iheagwu, declared that Mr Yahya polled a total of four hundred and thirty six votes to defeat his closest rival Mr Dele Atunbi and Garba Mohammed who scored ninety seven and thirty nine respectively.
Other National Officers who emerged unopposed are Abimbola Oyetunde of Radio Nigeria Bronze FM , Benin as Deputy National President and Mrs Ronke Afebioye-Samo from Ekiti State Council was re-elected as Vice President Zone B, while the Treasurer is Mr Victor Ndukwe and Mr Samuel Dada clinched the post of Financial Secretary
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected NUJ president, Mr Alhassan Yahya, pledged his commitment to the welfare of members and promised to collaborate with stakeholders and uphold principle of equity and fairness in his administration
