Ibarapa East LG To Benefit From Oyo NEWMAP As Experts Inspect Erosion Flashpoints

The Ibarapa East Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Kazeem Owolabi Arogundade would soon benefit from partnership initiative between the federal and state government through Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, Oyo state, to curb erosion and flooding in the council.

The project which was initiated by the Federal Government is being implemented by Oyo State.

This was made known by the project Consultant, Dr Olayinka Akanle while speaking with newsarena.ng after the inspection of some streams within Eruwa metropolis on Friday 1st November, 2024.

Newsarena.ng reports that the consultant and the team of experts were accompanied by the Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Owolabi Arogundade; Political Head of Ibarapa North/East LCDA, Lanlate, Hon. Jacob Olakunle Olalowo; Chief of Staff to the Council, Alh. Kasali; Leader of the House, Hon (Mrs) Rachael Azeez; Super for Works, Hon. Mufutau Olanrewaju; Super for Environment, Hon. Olusegun Ajayi; DESS and host of others inspected Ogboogbo stream along the local government/Adeseun Ogundoyin Poly road and the Source of the stream at Isaba area of Eruwa.

Dr Akanle pointed out that Eruwa had been selected as priority site, adding that the project was to protect the interest of Eruwa residents from perennial flooding and erosion.

He said “the project is to protect the interest of Eruwa people, to ensure they don’t experience perennial flooding issues and that erosion those not threaten their livelihood and their property. So coming here is not a show off or window dressing.”

The Consultant, however, appealed to the people of Eruwa town to synergize with the contractors, saying works would start on the Erosion Control at the affected areas.

While addressing journalists shortly after the inspection in his office, the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Owolabi Arogundade commended the Oyo State Government under the administration of Gov. Seyi Makinde on the laudable projects and assured that the Local Government authority and entire good people of Ibarapa East would work in tandem with the contractors mandate for desired results.
