US Based Nigerian Politician Dies In Ejigbo

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ejigbo Osun state who was a US based lecturer, Dr. Richard Adeoriokin has allegedly been shot dead in his home town by a local security guard.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred between 8:00 and 8:30 pm on Saturday, along Inisha Road of Ejigbo, following the conclusion of a public function attended by Dr. Adeoriokin, his political associates, and the son of Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oyeyode Oyesosin.

One of his aides, Mr Afeez Lawal who confirmed the incident said his boss was invited by the King’s son, Prince Eniola Oyeyode to his house for a function and was to be honoured with gunshot but mistakenly hit him on his leg.

Mr Lawal explained further that the deceased was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was referred to Osogbo where he eventually gave up.

Dr. Richard Adeoriokin was a lecturer at Prairie View A&M University in Houston, Texas before his death.

Meanwhile , Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke has ordered a full investigation Into the death of the deceased.

Governor Adeleke called on the family and residents of Ejigbo not to take laws Into their hands over the ugly incident.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke, who commiserated with the people of Ejigbo also directed law enforcement agencies to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and ensure that the law takes its cause.

Senator Adeleke called for pre-emptive action by the security agencies to prevent any possible counter-attacks or eruption of violence in the ancient town following the sad incident.

While urging families of the deceased not to take laws into their hands, the Governor had also dispatched a high powered delegation to visit Ejigbo and ensure restoration of calm while investigation continues.
