Oyo Govt To Upgrade Some PHCs To 24 Hours Medical Centers

The Oyo State Government has put plans in place to upgrade some of its Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to 24 hours service centers, adding that manpower gaps will be addressed soon.

This was part of the resolutions met during a two day retreat organized for health practitioners and stakeholders in the State, over the weekend.

During the retreat, the Ministry of Health mapped out strategies to address various challenges affecting the health sector, mobilize resources, coordinate the activities of its partners and arrive at a plan that will align with the the present administration’s Road Map for Health Care Development in the State.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, said the retreat will ensure stakeholders in the health sector chart a way forward to improve the sector.

She explained that the Governor Makinde led administration has made significant strides in improving the health care system and promoting the people’s health.

Earlier, the Director of  Planning Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Dr. Gbolahan Abbas said the presence and collaboration of health families at the retreat is to promote health services in the State.

At the retreat, all the stakeholders in the health sector resolved to improve their working relationship for effective service delivery towards the realization of the mandate of Omituntun 2.0 on health.

Also, the health family resolved to use innovative means to bridge the manpower gap, especially at PHCs by engaging qualified health personnel into some facilities using capitation and other sources.

The Oyo State Government vowed that as it makes progress in reducing the manpower gaps, more PHCs will be upgraded into 24 hours service centers.

The retreat also agreed to look into upgrading some Primary Health Centres to secondary health care.
