Heavy Laden Diesel Tanker Falls In Lagos

A potential fire outbreak was averted on Thursday by the Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) after a 33,000-litre diesel-laden tanker crashed along the Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway by Ajala bus stop.

in a statement issued by its Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department giving the account of the incident said that a tanker bearing the registration number JJJ 596 XX, fully loaded with diesel products, overturned at approximately 6:10 am, causing its contents to spill onto the expressway.

He further said to avert the imminent threat of a fire explosion, LASTMA swiftly responded to the scene by dispersing onlookers and cordoning off the entire area.

Adebayo said, “Upon arrival at the scene, LASTMA personnel promptly contacted the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, as well as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, securing the environment against unauthorized individuals attempting to collect spilled diesel using buckets and jerry cans.”

Adebayo further confirmed that the Meiran Police Division dispatched officers to provide additional security at the site

Men of the Nigeria Police, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, with other emergency responders, however, salvaged what could have been another major disaster at the accident scene as they subsequently, kept the invading miscreants scooping fuel at bay.
