A socio-political group, Better Oyo Movement (BOM), has rejected claims by a news publication crediting it to a recent publication on Alaafin stool.
The group in a statement by the chairman, Dr. Femi Fakunle and secretary, Engr. Tunji Hammed claimed it never autored any press release on Alaafin Stool.
“Our attention has been drawn to a release wherein our group, Better Oyo Movement (BOM), purportedly cast aspersions on the personality of some eminent members of the Oyomesi; for in the warped opinion of the publisher, denigrating the personality of Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, another personality whom we have very high regards for.
“While the antecedents of the publisher is not in doubt; he is a pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lackey, and one who uses his medium to promote anything Makinde and his allies, without restraint, or any modicum of respect and professionalism, we are at a loss as to why our group, reputed to be at the vanguard of the sociopolitical development of Oyo State, and one whose interventions in the polity have been commended far and near, would descend so low as to enter into the fray of chieftancy titles, whose result has no direct bearing on our group’s objectives.
“Our only interest, if any, is that as Yoruba sons and daughters, the institution of Alaafin is preserved, respected, and adored from generation to generation, irrespective of its occupant at any time.
“To show his amateurism and anyhowness, the publisher falsely credited us with the statement, yet used the reaction of a certain Oyo United for Justice, whom we have no affiliation with, whatsoever, in the body of the junk piece.
“The question we would like to ask this promoter of falsehood is why our group’s name had to be used to drive needless traffic to a release we neither authored nor contemplated authoring.
“Though recent checks to the junk website showed our group’s name has been edited from the offensive piece, the bad press it had given us can not be wished away, just like that.
“To that end, we’ve instructed our lawyers to consider litigation to redress this falsehood aimed at tarnishing our group’s hard-earned image.
