39th ASLTON Conference: Upskill, Embrace Artificial Intelligence – Scholars Charge Researchers, Lab Technologists

Researchers and laboratory technologists have been charged to Upskill and embrace the use of Artificial Intelligence to transform the industry

Some Scholars gave the charge while presenting papers at the 39th annual scientific conference of the Association Of Science Laboratory Technologists Of Nigeria, ASLTON, held at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.

The conference with the theme “Artificial Intelligence: Fundamentals and Applications In Science Laboratory Technology, Research Towards A Sustainable National Economy” had in attendance Scholars, Researchers and Technologists to fashion out ways to upgrade themselves to international standard.

One of the speakers who is also the director, D.K Olukoya Central Research Laboratory, University of Lagos, Professor Wellington Oyinbo encouraged members to upgrade their skills so as not to be replaced by someone that has better knowledge in artificial intelligence.

Also speaking, director, Lagos State University Of Research Management and Innovation, Professor Adejuwon Adeneye who disinuate the motion that AI would take the job of humans said, the technology was to complement humans efforts.

Reacting, the Director General, Nigerian Institute Of Science Laboratory Technology, NISLT , Dr Yemi Gbadegesin enumerated the advantages of using AI in research findings.

These he said include, accurate and speedy processing of data, gathering historical data, prediction of future tests among others.

In his remark, a senior Chief Laboratory Technologists with the Ekiti state university, Elder Michael Olu- Ajayi said the knowledge of AI would bring needed transformation in reforming the nation..

Contributing, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos state university, Prof Ibiyemi Bello urged government to adequately fund the sector to enhance needed technology.

Earlier, the president, Association of Science Laboratory Technologists Of Nigeria, ASLTON, Mr Ayotunde Omorilewa encouraged his members to tap into the new innovation.

The Lagos state commissioner for innovation science and technology, Olatubosun Alake gave an assurance of the readiness of the state to partner research findings especially in the area of artificial intelligence.

However in their seperate remarks, some researchers at the events urged Federal government to adequately fund the science sector especially in the area of artificial intelligence technology

Declaring the workshop open, minister of innovation, science and technology, Uche Nnaji commended the technologists for their contributions to series of Innovation and urged them to embrace the use of Artificial Intelligence for more efficient and innovative discoveries.
