Better Oyo Movement, a sociopolitical group at the vanguard of the state’s development, has confirmed its endorsement of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the coming 2023 polls.
The group which said its endorsement was premised on the courage exemplified by the candidate, his character as a core progressive whose political fidelity is not in doubt, the competence with which he governed Lagos State, and has continued to lead that state’s developmental charge. Striped bare of all sentiments, particularly those of religion and region, the group assured Nigerians that Asiwaju Tinubu is the top pick for the presidential job, who given a free, fair and credible poll, will win convincingly.
BOM, whose release in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was signed by Dr. Femi Fakunle and Engr. Tunji Hammed, Chairman and Secretary respectively, maintained that Nigeria, at a time like this, needed Asiwaju Tinubu to navigate the precarious times today’s global challenges has unwittingly thrown up.
“While the ongoing global challenges has significantly reduced people’s disposable income, and by extension their purchasing power, coupled with the cash crunch occasioned by the ill-advised, hairbrained currency redesign project by the vindictive governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, our nation Nigeria needs a man with the competence to navigate these times, renew our people’s hope and lead them to progress and prosperity.
“We can vouch for Asiwaju’s character, as his lone ranger status as opposition chieftain between 2007 and 2015, and his decision not to defect to the then ruling party, even when that was the perceived safe political choice, advertised him as a man of character, who can be trusted to deliver the goods, at all times.
“As for his courage, that is evident in his fearless campaigns and statements, chief of which was his Abeokuta outburst condemning the current cash crunch and never-ending fuel scarcity. For a candidate seeking election to have the courage to speak truth to power and side with the people, risking all in the defence of hapless and helpless Nigerians, at a time when others, especially Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, together with two PDP states, Edo and Bayelsa, chose to be anti-people, we, indeed, salute Asiwaju,” BOM said.
The group therefore enjoined voters to view its endorsement of Asiwaju, premised on his courage, character and competence, as a pointer to them, and a rationale to take a cue from, reminding them that Asiwaju Tinubu, from his past, to his present, evidently exhibits the potentials of one who’ll do exceedingly well in the future.
“As a pro-people sociopolitical movement, one which has been in the vanguard of the all-round development of Oyo State for years, and whose membership cuts across different professions and social class, we consider our endorsement of Asiwaju Tinubu as a furtherance of our commitment to the peace, progress and prosperity of our dear nation, and stand solidly behind his candidature,” BOM maintained.
