Nigerians have been urged to be patient, non-violent, and prayerful both before and during the eagerly anticipated 2023 elections, which are just a few days away.
The advice came against the backdrop of the hardship and suffering that Nigerians are going through at this point in the country’s history as a result of the shortage of fuel and the naira, which is having serious economic repercussions on the populace.
This was stated in a statement titled “keep the peace; do not lose heart” by the Most Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa, Bishop of the Ibadan Anglican Diocese.
While speaking with newsmen on the release, Most Reverend Akinfenwa acknowledged the trauma experienced by Nigerians in the past few weeks and expressed disappointment that no solution had come the way of Nigerians to ease their pains.
He commended Nigerians for their resilience and appealed to all to remain calm in the face of all provocations, urging everyone to shun violence and all that could stall the forth coming presidential elections but rather insist on peaceful change and democratic transition according to civilized norms.
Most Reverend Akinfenwa quoting from Acts Chapter 2:44-47 challenged Nigerians to be their brothers keeper by sharing from the little they have. According to him, this was the time to bond together in love across ethnic and religious boundaries, stressing that if Nigerians do what is right and godly, this painful process will give birth to a better nation.
