Waste Authority Engages Ido Community Leaders On September Deadline For Bin Compliance
The Oyo State Waste Management Authority, in collaboration with Smart Tees Concept, its consultant, has engaged stakeholders and community leaders in Ido Local Government as part of efforts to strengthen waste management practices and ensure compliance with the state’s waste management regulations.
The engagement, held with members of the Community Development Council (CDC) and other community leaders, focused on the enforcement of the directive that every household should have a designated waste bin.
The enforcement is scheduled to commence on September 1, 2026.
During the meeting, officials from the Waste Management Authority and Smart Tees Concept explained the importance of proper waste disposal and the need for residents to comply with the directive. They emphasized that the provision and proper use of waste bins by households would contribute significantly to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment across Ido Local Government.
The community leaders, while expressing their support for improved environmental sanitation, appealed to the authorities and the consultant to consider reducing the registration fee and waste management charges. They also called for special consideration for less-privileged residents and retirees, who may find the current fees difficult to afford.
The stakeholders stressed the importance of making the waste management programme affordable and accessible to all residents while ensuring that the objectives of the initiative are achieved.
Speaking during the engagement, the Deputy Director of Environmental Health, Ido Local Government, Mr. J. A. Taiwo, addressed the stakeholders on the importance of unity and compliance with the waste management initiative. He encouraged community leaders to support the programme and help communicate its importance to residents.
The Local Government Secretary Alhaji Gbadamosi Kamorudeen, who represented the Local Government Chairman Hon Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, also spoke at the meeting, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving sanitation and environmental conditions within the local government.
In his concluding remarks, the CDC Chairman Engr Tunde Salaudeen appealed to residents and community members to comply with the authorities and support the implementation of the waste management programme. He urged community leaders to enlighten and educate residents about the initiative, emphasizing that proper waste management is ultimately for the benefit, health, and wellbeing of the people.
The engagement ended with a renewed call for collaboration among the Oyo State Waste Management Authority, Smart Tees Concept, Ido Local Government, the CDC, community leaders, and residents to ensure the successful implementation of the waste management policy.
Residents are therefore encouraged to obtain and properly maintain their household waste bins ahead of the commencement of enforcement on 1st,September 2026 and to cooperate with relevant authorities in keeping Ido Local Government clean and environmentally healthy.
