VIDEO: Suspected Landslide Causes Panic In Igbeti

There was palpable panic on Saturday in Igbeti, Olorunsogo local government area of Oyo state when an activity suspected to be a landslide occured at about 3:45 pm.

Confirming the incidence while briefing stakeholders, the Head of Disaster Management Unit, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Oyo state command, DCC Olasedidun A.G said observations from the scene of the natural occurrence indicated that there was an initial and sudden noise of an explosion, precisely on a mountain, popularly called Iyamopo Hill in Igbeti Town.

DCC Olasedidun said “It was gathered from our officers today, the 7th of June 2025, that an activity that is suspected to be a landslide occurred at about 15:45 hrs of the day in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

“Observations from the scene of the natural occurrence indicated that there was an initial and sudden noise of an explosion precisely on the mountain popularly called Iyamopo Hill in Igbeti Town.

“The blast was then followed by a gradual disintegration of the rocks down the hill, the landslide, which caused panic among the people of the town.

“It was reported that such an occurrence happened sometime last year on the same rock which was generally believed to have been caused as a result of an intense heat that was recorded on the mountain.

“This assertion was arrived at since blasting of rocks are not allowed on the mountain by human factors.
