Oyo State Government has called on citizens of the state, especially the vulnerable to access the free tuberculosis testing and treatment window that it would make available for the commemoration of this year’s national childhood tuberculosis testing week from from May 27 to June 2nd.
Speaking during an interview, the commissioner for health, Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi who noted that tuberculosis is a preventable and treatable deadly disease, if diagnosed early, revealed that Nigeria has been ranked 6TH tuberculosis prone country in the world and first in Africa, while Oyo State ranked 13TH state battling with the disease in Nigeria.
The commissioner noted that symptoms of tuberculosis in children include cough, prolonged malaria, lethargy, loss of appetite, weight loss, swelling or bloatings, among others added that suspected tuberculosis cases should be taken to hospital for a thorough medical treatment.
Ajetunmobi, while reiterating the sustainable development plan of Governor Seyi Makinde, called on parents to avail time for their wards to access free tuberculosis testing and treatment at any if the primary healthcare centers across the thirty-three local government areas of Oyo State from 27th of May to the 2nd Of June.
