Seyi Makinde’s Fake Outrage: Optics Over Governance In Oyo State • “Talk Big, Deliver Nothing. Oyo People Are Tired” || By Elder David Oluokun
Governor Seyi Makinde is back on TV and radio again. This time crying about “simultaneous subsidy removal and naira floatation” by the Federal Government.
But Oyo people are asking, is this genuine concern, or just another round of political optics and rhetoric to hide his own failure at home?

Because while Makinde plays opposition leader on national TV, Oyo State is bleeding under his administration

*Huge Allocations, Harder Life For Oyo Citizens Since 2023*
Oyo State has received huge FAAC allocations every single month. Oil money is up. Federal allocations are up.
So why is life harder in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin and across the 33 LGAs?
Where is the money going? The answer is simple, mismanagement and wastage.
Holding local government funds by the jugular means,
the 3rd tier of government is suffocating.
Makinde has cornered LG funds and refuses to allow true autonomy. Chairmen collect allocation but cannot breathe. No projects in wards. No grading of rural roads.
No primary health care funding, he centralized everything in Agodi so he can control the cash. That is not governance, that is strangulation.
BODIJA EXPLOSION: WHERE IS THE #30BILLION RELIEF?
On January 16, 2024, Bodija was rocked by an explosion, lives were lost, homes destroyed and businesses wiped out.
Governor Makinde rushed to see the president and in his magnanimity and concern for every citizen of Nigeria the president approved #50B as relief for the victims although #30B was released but Makinde in his usual deceptive self never said anything until the former Governor of Ekiti state exposed him.
2 years later, where is the money?
Victims are still in pain. Some are still in rented apartments, some shops never reopened.
Bring Back Bodija Explosion Victims’ N30bn first before you talk about federal policy.
28 BILLION ON “LIGHT UP OYO” WITH NO LIGHT.
Another headline project. #28 Billion Naira to “Light Up Oyo”.
Drive through Ibadan at night, most streets are still dark.
Now the scandal: They removed solar panels and replaced them with generators.
Generator! In 21st century! Solar was supposed to be sustainable. Now it’s diesel, fueling, and huge corruption in contracts.
#28B and Oyo is still in darkness. Where is the accountability?
ZERO INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE
Oyo is an agrarian state. We have land in Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, and Ogbomoso.
But under Makinde, there is zero serious investment in Agriculture.
No tractors, no inputs, no storage, no value chain.
Food prices are high because the government abandoned farmers. Yet they have money for jamborees.
#7.7 BILLION ON SURVEILLANCE AIRCRAFT THAT WILL EXPIRE IN 2 YEARS
The biggest waste of all. #7.7 Billion Naira spent on a security surveillance aircraft.
Security experts have said it: the technology will be outdated in 2 years. It cannot cover all 33 LGAs. It cannot stop kidnapping on Lagos-Ibadan express or in Oke-Ogun.
Meanwhile, our police posts have no vehicles.despite huge security votes every month, Amotekun are not well equipped. Vigilantes have no kits, priority misplaced.
STOP THE RHETORIC, FACE OYO
Governor Makinde should stop using federal policies as cover for his own malaadministration and wastages.
Subsidy removal is painful, yes. But good governors cushion the effect. They invest in LGAs. They support farmers. They deliver light. They pay victims.
Instead, Makinde is doing press conferences while:
1. Holding LG funds hostage
2. Owing Bodija victims #30B
3. Wasting #28B on darkness
4. Ignoring agriculture
5. Buying toys with #7.7B
Oyo people are not children. We see through the optics.
Before 2027, bring back Bodija’s N30bn. Free LG funds. Light up Oyo for real. Then you can talk.
Until then, the rhetoric is empty..
