Reps’ C’ttee Chairman On Digital, ‘Odidiomo’ Advocates State-of-Emergency On Digital Literacy

A member of the House of Representatives and chairman House Committee on Digital and Information Communication, Mr. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Odidiomo, has called for the declaration of a state of emergency on digital literacy in Nigeria.

Mr. Olajide who made the call in an interview on Lagelu FM on Saturday, said Nigeria must prioritize digital literacy and skills acquisition to prepare youths for the digital economy.

According to Olajide, “Data is the new gold and it has become a crucial resource for economic growth and development, just as oil was the mainstay of our economy in the past, data is now the new oil”.

He emphasized that the future of our development as a country is digital and hence Nigerian youths must be digitally compliant to remain relevant in the global economy.

“We cannot afford to be left behind in this digital revolution”.

“Our youths must be equipped with the necessary skills to compete with their peers globally,” he said.

Mr. Olajide while further highlighting the importance of digital literacy in improving the country’s economy said “Digital literacy will not only improve the employability of our youths but also help increase the nation’s GDP.

“We must invest in digital infrastructure, training, and skills acquisition to make Nigeria a hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship.”
