A book titled, “Perils and Power of Adolescence” has been unveiled in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital to mentor teenagers and Adolescents through the challenges associated with Adolescents.
The 143-Page book, laced with personal experiences of the Author during her adolescence, is embedded with mentoring module to effectively guide teenagers on personal grooming, decision making, self esteem, sexual purity, academic excellence among others.
Speaking about the background of the book, husband of the Author, Mr. Oluwafemi Osho, who described his wife as a visionary woman, explained that the huge gap of communication between parents and wards which according to him was missing had cause grevious damages in the society.
Mr Oshọ, noted that the motive behind the writing of the book was to change the narrative and influence the adolescents as well as their parents to reignite their relationships so as to enable them come out of adolescent stage unscratched.
“In the city today, ladies of ages between 19 and 21 engage in smoking and hard drugs in the open, they do all manner of things without any recourse to family background, we targets the young adults to expose them to the perils of Adolescence and how they can come out shining ” Mr. Oshọ added..
Mother of the Author, who’s also a retired Tutor General, Mrs. Clara Ariyo, Stated that the responsibility of nurturing a girl child was enormous hence the need for mothers to disciple their teenagers as friends and share their concerns through the perils of Adolescence
“I could remember they were praying for my death due to the way I was harsh on them. I must confess, it has not been easy to train girls and Ladies, but I thank God and I’m happy they turn out good.”
Mrs. Fọláṣadé Adamolekun, in a lecture on effective communication with the Adolescents, submitted that life was in stages, wherein, Adolescence is one, noted that parents and guardians needed to speak to teenagers with love.
“Be ready to give them your undivided attention, be patient with them, never in any way should you ignore them. Be there for them, guide them and above all be observant and see them as friends and partners ”
Author of the book, Mrs. Abimbola Osho-Gold said the quest to answer the questions on the minds of teenagers, theirs pains and challenges consequent on the unbalanced relationship between parents and children.
“This book talks about how they can cope with peers and peer pressure, this book talks about how they can build their rescillience against bullying, sexual assaults, against all sorts of challenges that people of their age encounter”
Mrs. Abimbola Osho-Gold, is a teacher by Training as well as a Chartered Professional Counselor, she is the Chief Executive Officer of a Non-govermental organisation: De Amazing Woman Foundation which provides Support and rehabilitation for women and children who have survived domestic violence.
She has three additional books to her credit and also floats a Teenagers Academy, known as Blissmind Teens Academy for effective guidance and mentorship of teens on various aspects of their developments.
