Rain Alert: NiMet Predicts Three Days Rain, Thunderstorm In Over 15 States

Rain and thunderstorms are expected across the nation from Friday 19th August through Sunday 21st Augus, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

Thunderstorms were expected to pass over portions of the states of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Yobe, Borno, Taraba, and Adamawa on Friday morning, according to the NiMet weather forecast released on Thursday in Abuja.

It states that there is a possibility of thunderstorms later in the day over areas of Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Kebbi States.

Throughout the forecast period, the agency expected sporadic rainfall over the North-central region.

In the morning hours, NiMet predicted light rainfall over the southern inland and coastal cities, followed by moderate rains later in the day.

“For Saturday, a cloudy atmosphere is expected over the northern region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Kano, Katsina and Sokoto States during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano and Sokoto States.

The agency predicted moderate rains in sections of Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Enugu, Imo, Edo, and the coast.

It stated that moderate rains were anticipated for portions of the states of Ogun, Imo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom later in the day.

The agency claims that there is still a flood risk in the country’s northern regions. Emergency response organizations should be on high alert.
