ACP Akanle Rufus Adegoke, PSC, MIRSS, is a seasoned and highly experienced police officer, administrator, security professional and community leader who retired from the Nigeria Police Force on 1 June 2026 after 35 years of meritorious service.
He retired while serving as the Area Commander, Iseyin Police Area Command, Oyo State Police Command.
Born on 23 July 1970, ACP Akanle is a native of Uro-Ajowa, Ajowa-Akoko, in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria.
He is a Nigerian and is married to Chief (Mrs.) Olayinka Adepeju Adegoke, the Yeye Obasayero of Ago-Amodu Land, Saki-East Local Government Area of Oyo State. The marriage is blessed with children.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
ACP Akanle began his formal education at L.A. ‘A’ Primary School, Ajowa-Akoko, Ondo State, where he obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1983.
He proceeded to Community Grammar School, Ajowa-Akoko, from 1984 to 1988, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC).
He subsequently attended Baptist High School, Temidire, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate (SSC) in 1993.
He furthered his education at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos State, where he studied Political Science and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.Sc. Ed.) in Political Science in 2001.
He thereafter proceeded to the School of Postgraduate Studies, Lagos State University, from 2004 to 2006 and obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies (MIRSS) in 2008.
POLICE TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
ACP Akanle joined the Nigeria Police Force, where he received professional police training at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, and subsequently at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano, Kano State, as a member of the pioneer Cadet Inspectorate Course 4/1994, also known as Course 33.
As part of his continuous professional development, he attended the Combat Training at the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Training College, Gwoza, Maiduguri, Borno State, in 1995. In the same year, he attended the Citizenship and Leadership Course at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Shere Hills, Jos, Plateau State.
In 2011, he participated in the Interpol Enforcement Training on Combating Pharmaceutical Crimes in Abuja, Nigeria, where he was awarded a certificate upon successful completion of the programme.
He also attended the Combat and Counter-Terrorism Training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano, in 2013.
In 2022, he attended the Tactical Leadership Command Course (TLCC), Course 19/2022, at the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State, where he successfully completed the programme and was awarded the prestigious Passed Staff College (PSC) qualification.
CAREER IN THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE
Following his training, ACP Akanle commenced his policing career and progressively rose through the ranks and appointments, serving in several challenging and strategic formations and departments across different states of Nigeria.
His early postings included the Divisional Police Headquarters, Agbara, Ogun State, where he served as Charge Room Officer (CRO) from 1996 to 2000.
Between 2000 and 2001, he served at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Abigi, Ogun State, as Station Officer at Iwopin, Ayila, Itebu Manua and Ayede Stations.
From 2001 to August 2002, he served at the State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State Police Command, as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO).
He was Divisional Traffic Officer, ( DTO) Lafenwa Division, Abeokuta, Ogun State (2002- 2004) before being posted to State CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
He was a Divisional Police Officer, ( DPO) lkolaba, new Bodija Estate, Ibadan, Oyo state.
He was Officer in charge Political activities (O/C Political activities), for Oyo North Centre, covering the thirteen (13) local government areas of Okeogun and Ogbomosho, in 2023 general elections in Oyo North Central
He subsequently served as Divisional Traffic Officer at a divisional police formation.
From April 2004 to June 2005, he served at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, as Deputy to the Officer-in-Charge, Homicide Section (2 I/C Homicide).
Between June 2005 and June 2006, he served at the Pay Department, State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, as Deputy to the Paymaster (2 I/C Paymaster).
He was subsequently posted to the Divisional Police Headquarters, CPS Awka, Anambra State Police Command, where he served as Officer-in-Charge, Patrol and Guard, from June 2006 to March 2007.
From March 2007 to March 2010, he served as Officer-in-Charge, Mechanized Salaries Section (MSS), Awka, Anambra State Police Command.
SECONDMENT TO NAFDAC
In March 2010, ACP Akanle was seconded to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Abuja and Lagos State, where he served until December 2012 as a Board Member/Member of the Federal Task Force Against Fake and Counterfeit Drugs and Other Unwholesome Processed Foods and Substandard Products.
His assignment at NAFDAC exposed him to specialised enforcement responsibilities and inter-agency collaboration in the fight against counterfeit pharmaceutical products and other harmful and substandard consumer goods.
SERVICE AT THE NIGERIA POLICE ACADEMY
In January 2013, ACP Akanle was posted to the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano, Kano State, where he served as Chief Security Officer (CSO).
He also served in the Academy as a Lecturer in the Department of Liberal Studies and 3 I/C Provost Marshal, combining operational policing responsibilities with academic and training duties.
SENIOR COMMAND AND OPERATIONAL APPOINTMENTS
ACP Akanle later served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ago-Amodu Division, Saki-East Local Government Area, Oyo State Police Command, from February 2016 to August 2020.
He subsequently served at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, as Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Cultism, from August 2020 to March 2022.
He was later appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Apete Division, Ibadan, Oyo State Police Command, where he served from March 2023 to 27 December 2023.
From 27 December 2023 to 16 February 2024, he served at the State Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as Officer-in-Charge, Training and Development.
He was subsequently appointed Area Commander, Iseyin Police Area Command, Oyo State Police Command, a position he held until his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force on 1 June 2026, after 35 years of dedicated and meritorious service.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP AND FELLOWSHIPS
ACP Akanle is a Fellow of notable professional institutions and a member of recognised professional bodies.
He is a Fellow of the Institute for Policy Management and Leadership Development (FIPMLD) and a Fellow of the Institute of Security Nigeria (FISN).
He is also a Member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (MNIIA), Lagos.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
Beyond his professional career, ACP Akanle is actively recognised as a community leader.
He holds the traditional chieftaincy title of Chief Obasayero of Ago-Amodu Land, in Saki-East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
His community leadership reflects his commitment to peace, security, development and the advancement of his community.
