The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old male, Usman Dauda, over the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in Saki, Oyo State.
The suspect was arrested after the child reportedly went missing while returning from school, prompting a distress report at the Saki Divisional Police Station.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade says a search operation subsequently led to the recovery of the child along a roadside in a distressed condition, with preliminary investigation indicating that she had allegedly been taken into the suspect’s apartment.
Police detectives secured the scene and arrested the suspect, while critical physical evidence believed to be connected with the alleged offence was recovered.
The child was immediately taken to a medical facility in Saki, where she is receiving medical attention and psychotherapeutic care.
The case has been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Police Command says the identity and privacy of the child and her family will be protected in line with the Child Rights Act and established child-protection guidelines.
