The Nigeria police force, Oyo State Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, Sodiq Akorede, in connection with the murder of a six-year-old girl in Ibadan.

A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade indicates that the incident occurred on Saturday April 11, 2026, at Adigun Village in the Olorunda Ogunsola area of the city. The victim was identified as Mutiyatu Sunday.

According to the statement, police authorities received report that the young girl had been unlawfully killed, with her severed head reportedly found in the possession of the suspect at the location.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Olugbenga Abimbola , ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to the scene.
Police officers, acting on the directive, successfully rescued the suspect from the angry mob and secured the exhibit recovered from his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had confirmed the killing of the minor.
The police further stated that the suspect sustained injuries during the mob attack and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police condemned acts of jungle justice, warning that such actions undermine due process and hinder effective investigation. He assured the public that justice would be served and urged residents to remain law-abiding.
