Thousands of supporters of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku/Okowa have organized a walk in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, to solicit votes for PDP in the presidential election on February 25 as this year’s election approaches.
The freedom walk started at Total Garden-Agodi-Gate-Oje and ended at Ibadan’s historic Mapo Roundabout.
The PDP party supporters for Atiku/Okowa group braved the inclement weather to traverse the allocated routes while screaming various songs of unity and dancing to the music of Taiwo Adebisi, an Ibadan Fuji maestro better known as Taye Currency.
Security operatives were positioned in strategic places to foster the break down of law and order.
Meanwhile, all the candidates under the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Oyo state and the state’s party executive were conspicuously absent.
According to reports, all the candidates going along with Atiku to the election are not in support of governor Makinde being among the G-5 but all living with the fear of the unknown.
Though the walk was organized by support groups for Atiku/Okowa, it was expected that members of the state’s party executives attend the walk.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, the Director Southern Nigeria for the Atiku/Okowa campaign council, Jide Adeniji while soliciting support for PDP presidential candidate described Alhaji Atiku as a unifier who is more experienced to tackle head on various challenges facing the nation
Mr Adeniji also stressed that the 5-point agenda of the Waziri Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would no doubt take Nigeria to greater heights.
Also,former Minister of Federal Capital Territory,Oloye Jumoke Akinjide called on the electorate in the state to vote for all candidates of PDP stressing that there was no division in the PDP family in Oyo state.
Other party stalwarts who took turn to speak urged party members to be united ahead of this year’s election.
