Oyo Police Commissioner Bags Honorary Title From Seriki Sasa

Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Adebowale Williams has been conferred with the title of Ambassador of Peace.

The title was conferred on the Police Commissioner by the Seriki Sasa of Oyo State, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin.

Alhaji Maiyasin said the title was conferred on Mr Williams based on his contributions to the peaceful ambience enjoyed by residents in the State.

Alhaji Maiyasin said the commissioner’s efforts during the elections would never be forgotten in the history of politics in oyo state.

The Seriki Sasa therefore congratulated Mr Williams for his recent promotion to the level of Assistant Commissioner of Police, AIG.

Responding, the newly promoted AIG, Adebowale Williams, who appreciated the title given to him by the hausa community, said the gesture would go a long way to making him do more in his new position.

He said the visit to Seriki Sasa and other stakeholders was in line with his plan to appreciate people who made the security architecture of Oyo state a seamless job for the police.

Mr Williams called for continuous support from the public to collectively wage war against insecurity in Nigeria.

He said the mutual relationship between the police and traditional rulers assisted the police to nip crime in the bud, especially during the elections.

He said though, there were challenges in fighting crime but with the mutual relationship among some stakeholders oyo state was relatively calm, especially during the elections.

AIG Williams urged them to extend the love and support to the next commissioner of police in oyo state whenever he resumed.

On his part, the Chief imam of Oyo state, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Agbotomokekere who was also visited by AIG Williams said the police did well at ensuring that oyo state was peaceful.

Also the AIG visited the leadership of the Nigeria union of journalists, NUJ in oyo state, at the Press center, Iyaganku, Ibadan to appreciate the hand of love extended to him during his stay as commissioner of Police.

He said journalists in Oyo state really made his work easier through their balanced reportage on criminal reporting.

AIG Williams therefore urged NUJ in the state to extend the relationship to the next commissioner of Police which has not been announced by the Inspector General of Police.

Reacting, the NUJ chairman in Oyo state, Mr Demola Babalola, who described AIG Williams as a media friendly officer, said the outgoing CP maintained a cordial journalists-police relationship and his tenure would be forever missed.
