The Oyo State Police Command says its personnel has arrested an individual involved in the distribution of counterfeit currency.
In a statement by the command’s public relations officer, Adewale Osifeso, the development took place during a proactive Stop and Search operation conducted by Federal Highway Patrol team on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway.

The statement reads:

“On August 29, 2025, at approximately 8:45 PM, officers from the Federal Highway Patrol, while executing stop-and-search procedures along the Guru Maharaji area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, stopped a green Sienna vehicle with the registration number Lagos FKJ 443 YG. The vehicle was en route to Osogbo and exhibited suspicious characteristics, prompting a thorough search.
“During the investigation, officers discovered approximately One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) in one-thousand-naira banknotes, which bore only three unique serial numbers: 235923- #500,000 (500 notes); 235922- #300,000 (300 notes); and 235921- #200,000 (200 notes), all concealed in a transparent plastic parcel secured with ample tape.
“Upon questioning, the suspect, Akande, a male, indicated that he was acting as a courier, having received the cash from an unidentified individual in Ojota, Lagos. He stated that he was instructed to deliver the funds to Osogbo but had not been given the name or contact information of the recipient. Interestingly, he claimed that he had been told the package contained body cream.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains committed to combating currency counterfeiting and other financial crimes that jeopardize our economy and community safety. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate channels.
“As investigations continue, further updates will be communicated as necessary.
