Oyo NUJ: LAUTECH, Atayese of Fiditi, MOWA Felicitate Akeem Abas On Election Victory

Vice Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, has congratulated the new Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Akeem Abas, over his victory at the poll to elect a new boss for journalists in the State.

Kalilu in a message to the leader of journalists said, he should continue to be hardworking and determined to enforce responsible journalism in the pacesetter state.

According to Professor Kalilu “we at LAUTECH rejoice with you and promise to remain your friend.

“We pray that your new position will engender a more robust relationship that will usher in a mutually beneficial future for your organisation and ours”.

Similarly, The newly installed Atayese of Fiditi, Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi, popularly called OPA, has congratulated the Akeem Abass on his emergence as the new chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council.

In a statement through his media office in Ibadan, OPA commended the new chairman and his campaign team led by Lekan Shobo Shobowale and other committees for a successful electoral outing.

Olaoluwa, a 2027 governorship hopeful in Oyo state expressed belief that the new chairman will justify the confidence reposed in him by the entire journalists in Oyo State.

“I’m not in doubt of your special leadership abilities in charting a new course for journalistic standards and advocating for the rights of media professionals in Oyo State.”

Olaoluwa stated that he is prepared to support the new Chairman and work with other newly elected NUJ executives to enhance the welfare of original practitioners.

Meanwhile, Dr. Moshood Wasiu Abiola (MOWA), Gubernatorial Aspirant in the forthcoming Oyo State Governorship Elections, has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Akeem Abas, Editor with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on his election as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Dr. Abiola describes Mr. Abas’ emergence as a resounding affirmation of credibility, professionalism, and trust, earned through years of disciplined journalism and commitment to ethical reporting in service of the public good.

The election, conducted transparently and competitively, reflects the collective confidence of journalists across chapels in Oyo State in Mr. Abas’ capacity to lead the union into a new era of unity, professionalism, and welfare-driven advocacy.

“Journalism remains the conscience of society. The emergence of Akeem Abas, a seasoned editor and respected colleague, reassures the public that the NUJ in Oyo State is in safe, competent, and principled hands,” Dr. Abiola stated.

Dr. Abiola commended Mr. Abas’ acceptance speech, particularly his emphasis on fairness, transparency, unity, and a renewed commitment to professionalism, describing it as a timely response to the evolving challenges facing the media profession in Nigeria.
