Oyo LG Election: Stakeholders Charge OYSIEC As Commission Gives Fresh Update On Poll

Oyo state Independence Electoral Commission, OYSIEC says the voter’s register list for the 2024 local government election would be pasted at designated centres between this week or next

OYSIEC commissioner, Mr Sunday Falana disclosed this while reacting to questions as a guest speaker at a One-day roundtable conversation with civil society organizations and other stakeholders on the forthcoming local government election.

The stakeholders’ engagement held in Ibadan was organized by Cedar for Human Welfare Initiative, CEHUWEI in partnership with Christian Rural And Urban Development Association Of Nigeria.

Mr Falana said all arrangements are being concluded with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Oyo state to prepare the voters register for each ward with a view to pasting them at designated places.

While expressing the commission’s determination to ensure logistics are adequately provided for the election, Mr Falana said there would be no late arrival of election materials to polling units.

He also hinted that Local Government development areas, LCDAs were not captured in the 2024 April LG election, noting that election is not taking place at the LCDAs

In a remark, Zonal programme officer, Christian Rural And Urban Development Association Of Nigeria, CRUDAN, Mr. John Akinpelu stressed the need for local government leadership to always engage community members on government policies and programmes.

Earlier in an address, Executive Director, Cedar For Human Welfare Initiative, CEHUWEI, Dr. Olubukola Olatunji said the purpose of the engagement which is ongoing to be a continuous one was to reawaken people’s consciousness to participating in the coming election.

Also speaking, Oyo state chairman, National Youth Council Of Nigeria, Mr Abdulsalam AbdulQaudri advised the commission to engage the youths for successful election.

Some of the stakeholders who spoke advised OYSIEC to accredit more election observers, improve on its awareness and state what consideration were provided for the elderly, people with disability and expectant mothers who are eligible to vote on election date.
