The Oyo State Government has renewed its commitment to sustaining the gains recorded in the fight against HIV/AIDS through stronger domestic financing, partnership and integration of HIV programmes into existing government systems.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA), Aare (Dr.) Gbola Adetunji, made this known at the Third Quarter Meeting of the Oyo State HIV Resources Mobilisation Technical Working Group and Sustainability Plan Committee, held recently at the Agency’s Conference Room, Ibadan.
Adetunji said the changing global health financing environment, donor transition and funding gaps had made it necessary for the State to develop sustainable mechanisms for financing HIV prevention, testing, treatment, care and support.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, Local Government Areas, development partners, NGOs, private-sector organisations and other stakeholders to ensure that HIV services remain sustainable across the State’s 33 LGAs.
The OYSACA Chairman expressed appreciation to the lead implementing partner, APIN Public Health Initiatives in Nigeria, other implementing partners, networks, government agencies, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations and members of the Technical Working Group for their continued commitment to the State’s HIV response.
He reaffirmed OYSACA’s commitment to sustained engagement with relevant government institutions and partners towards building a coordinated, resilient and financially sustainable HIV response capable of protecting the gains already recorded in the State.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Adebowale Olufemi Awakan, represented by the Deputy Director, Barrister Mustapha Olagoke Ogunsola, emphasised the importance of taxation, social responsibility and integration in strengthening domestic resource mobilisation.
He maintained that “integration is no longer an option but a necessity in the face of limited resources,” stressing that sustaining the HIV response requires collective efforts beyond government funding.
He urged stakeholders to coordinate interventions, avoid duplication, integrate available resources and explore innovative financing approaches to ensure greater efficiency and long-term sustainability.
The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review progress made during the third quarter of 2026, assess existing resource gaps and deliberate on strategies to strengthen and scale up the HIV response, with a renewed call for collective responsibility, stronger domestic financing and coordinated action to ensure sustained access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment, care and support services across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State.
