Oyo Govt Sets For 2024 World School Athletics Trials

Oyo State Government has expressed its readiness to host a memorable World school Athletics Trials organized by the Nigeria School Sports Federation among primary and secondary schools students across the country.

In a statement signed on Friday by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof.Salihu Adelabu and made available to journalists, indicated that the trial will kick-start on Monday, 5th August and end on Friday, 9th August, 2024

The statement added that the tourney will hold at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan, billed for 9am daily.

The trial, according to the Commissioner, is meant to select prolific athletes who are to represent Nigeria at the World School Athletics Championship coming up later this year in Bahrain.

The statement reads, “All is set for the hosting of the 2024 World School Sports Athletes. This is another opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and also boost the commercial activities of the state within this period.

“ I must say that the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure our students strike a balance between education and sporting activities, and we believe that our representatives at the trial will make us proud”

” The trial will be in three categories, Under 12, this is for primary school pupils, Under 15 is meant for junior secondary school students, while senior secondary school students are for the under 18 categories.

“ I want to appeal to the organizers to put in the necessary efforts and be fair to all the participating schools, while the athletes should embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and build a lasting relationship among themselves“
