The presentation took place as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, highlighting individuals who have significantly shaped the state’s history over the last half-century.

Governor Seyi Makinde, while presenting the award, emphasized that the honour was a testament to Professor Peller’s “outstanding contributions to the development of Oyo State.”

The Governor noted that Peller’s unique career as a master of illusion brought international attention to the state and showcased the diverse talent inherent in its people.

In his accepting speech, the younger Peller expressed the family’s deep gratitude to the state government.

“Our father was a man of many parts—a legendary magician, a global icon, and a dedicated showman. But above all his titles, the one he held most dear was that of a ‘Son of Oyo State,'” Shina Peller stated.

Speaking on cultural representation, Shina Peller noted that his father carried Oyo heritage into global arenas, ensuring the world recognized his Nigerian roots.
