Oyo Farmers, Herders Sign Peace Agreement At Southwest Summit

Farmers and Herders in Oyo State have signed a Peace Pact towards sustainable agricultural development in the region.

This resonated at the Southwest commodities farmers organization summit held in Ibadan.

The summit which brought together farmers and herders from across the six states in southwest region of Nigeria afforded them the opportunity to proffer solutions to challenges faced by both groups and the need for government to carry them along in providing supports, policy formulation and assistance.

The southwest coordinator of commodities farmers organization, Prince Segun Dasaolu and President of Miyetti Allah cattle breeders association of Nigeria signed the peace pact to ensure that farmers-herders clash is stopped in the southwest.

Participants which include Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo at the southwest commodities farmers summit called on the farmers to work as a team and ensure that they utilize research institutions to get better yields.

With the theme: sustainable food production in Southwest Nigeria: the way forward, the summit focuses on ensuring that the southwest farmers return to the farm, and also to promote food security in the country.
