The Oyo State House of Assembly has emphasized the need for the executive to intensify efforts in establishing the Bio – Engineering department in general hospitals across the State.
This recommendation was contained in a motion by lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon Gbenga Oyekola aimed at ensuring adequate provision of health care facilities in Oyo State.

Presenting the motion during the plenary, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola noted that some of the General Hospitals in the State lack major equipment and facilities to take care of patients who need special medical services.

He stressed further that some local governments with inadequate medical facilities travel long distances to get access to health care services, especially those in need of such equipments.
“The importance of equipping the existing General Hospitals and creating more where they are lacking can not be overstated. Doing so would help reduce mortality rates among infants and pregnant mothers. ”
“The secondary health care facilities serve as a link between primary and tertiary health care, offering specialised care and medical support to patients. Some medical services that require the attention of secondary health care can not be attended to at primary health care facilities.” He added
The plenary, presided by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi urged the State Government, to as a matter of urgency, put the necessary machinery in place toward establishing general Hospitals in undeserved local government for increased access to secondary health care services for residents in the needed areas of the State.
The House has however directed its Standing Committee on Health to do further investigation on the present state of Equipment at General Hospitals across the State and come up with a detailed report to be submitted at the plenary.
