A former Local Government Chairman in Ibadan North and Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, Hon Yinka Akinbode, has appealed to party members and chieftains to avoid letting the governorship candidate issue cause disaffection within the party.

In a press release, Akinbode emphasized that disagreements over candidate selection can affect the party’s chances in elections.

“It is imperative for members to come together to fine-tune strategies for winning elections rather than engaging in bickering and dismemberment,” Akinbode stated.

He added that any candidate selected through consensus should be supported by all members.
Regarding Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, Akinbode expressed confidence in his candidacy, dismissing as “political undertone” attempts to link him to the current administration’s conferment of Obaship titles.
“The recent letter sent to the Olubadan of Ibadanland from the State Government on conferring Obaship to Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli is very political and has been thrown in the dustbin,” Akinbode said.
He likened the government’s move to “an aeroplane that has left the ground up to the space,” implying it’s ineffective and motivated by fear of Alli’s strong candidacy.
“Even ants on the ground know he would contest to win,” Akinbode added, expressing confidence in Alli’s chances.
Akinbode’s statement underscores the growing tensions within the APC as the governorship race intensifies.
His call for unity highlights the need for party cohesion in the face of electoral challenges.
