The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leaders and candidates for the governorship and other elective posts stormed Ogbomoso, Oyo state on a familiarization tour, where they visited members of all the local governments in the region.
The NNPP southwest leader Alhaji Abdulrasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan and the party’s governorship candidate Engineer Joshua Olukayode Popoola led the tour, which was met with a thunderous welcome everywhere they went.
The crowd and residents of the town were overjoyed to meet the NNPP team, showing that the party is accepted in the large, ancient city, which is renowned for producing political icons from the time of the First Republic until the present.
As a sign of acceptability, market women and men, traders and artisans, local governments trooped out in their hundreds and showed their delights to partner with the party.
Their turn out, was a big surprise because the NNPP team never expected that it would be such an impressive one.
Addressing the large crowd, of market men and women, traders and as well artisans in Ogbomoso, the governorship candidate of the the NNPP Engineer Popoola said that all segments of the society in Oyo State, would be carried along, In all his programmes and activities if elected the governor of the state in 2023.
He said the situation of things would would not be like those in the present government, who have failed to fulfill all what they promised the people, saying that the NNPP government would operate an open door policies that would benefit the entire people of Oyo State..
The Deputy governorship candidate of the party, Alhaja Adesope Medinat, said, that the party and the government of NNPP, would not look down on women, as the party has earmarked series of empowerment programmes, that would of benefit to them, as well as the youths.
Alhaji Olopoeyan who got a thunderous ovations from the traders and artisans, eulogized the former late governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, who was described as one of the best governors that ever governed Oyo State.
He said the people of Ogbomosho should regard him as the son of the soil because he has been with the people both on political and personal platforms for long time.
He said that he benefitted greatly from Akala who is from Ogbomosho and that he has always held the people of the town in a very high esteem because the city, has always been producing great men and respected politicians, right from the first Republic, when they had the Premier of the Western Region, late Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola.
Alhaji Olopoeyan said he was happy with the turn out that he witnessed, an indication that the people have embraced the NNPP in Ogbomoso.
