Osun Govt. Reacts As Truck Conveying Inmates Injures Commuters In Osogbo

Osun State government has advised motorists and motorcycle riders to always obey the traffic lights at Olaiya junction in Osogbo and other places for their own safety.

This is just as the government described the fatal accident that occurred at the junction on Thursday morning as very unfortunate.

The State government spoke through the Executive Secretary, Osun State Office of Transportation, Mr Bilal Adiat while reacting to the early morning accident.

Mr. Bilal lamented that the accident which had casualties who have since been rushed to the hospital could have been averted if the traffic light controlling vehicles was obeyed.

He said government had always warned motorists and other road users to alway exercise patience and obey the traffic lights.

Recall that there was palpable tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Thursday, as a truck conveying inmates to the State High Court, hit a commercial minibus, injuring two persons.

The incident immediately sparked violent protest, as commercial motorcyclists and some angry youths blocked the popular Olaiya Junction in protest.

Eyewitnesses said the correctional truck driver refused to obey a traffic light that had signaled him to stop and in the process, hit a minibus, leaving the driver and one of the passengers injured.

As of the time of filing this report, police drafted to the scene, had dispersed the protesters, with teargas.
