At least two persons have been confirmed killed in the bloody clash which occurred on Monday in Erin-Osun, the boundary of Osun and Oyo States over land.
Confirming the incident in Osogbo, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kolapo Alimi, disclosed that there were two casualties and that their bodies had been deposited in the morgue of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
Mr Alimi appealed to the affected communities to give peace a chance, saying the crisis was an offshoot of the bloody war that happened in Ifon and Ilobu last year October.
The Commissioner said since government has taken over the land in dispute, some indigenes had moved to the boundary between Oyo and Osun to cause another mayhem over the land.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the Osun state police public relations officer, Opalola Olawoyin, the Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the unfortunate communal clash between IFON and ILOBU communities of the state.
The Command while calling for calm over the incident which led to the disruption of peace in the affected community on 29th January, 2024, noted that it has deployed proactive measures to restore peace to the community and forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
It said two persons lost their lives to the incident and the corpses have been deposited in the mortuary at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.
However, the command explained that one Mojeed Oyewumi Alani ‘M’ and one other who were arrested with Weapons and Criminal Charms by Police operatives for their role in the communual clash have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
In the meantime, Osun state government has ordered a 6pm to 6am curfew with immediate effect on the warring Ifon and Ilobu communities, starting from Tuesday, 30th January 2024.
The state government in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Mr. Kolapo Alimi directed the set up of a joint task force of all stakeholders in the warring communities, which would include traditional chiefs of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun.
The government also stated that a high powered stakeholders meeting will be held with all traditional chiefs and rulers from the three communities with government officials and all security chiefs in attendance
