Osun Assembly Calls For Creation Of More State Constituencies
Osun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution seeking for the urgent need to create four additional Constituencies.
This resolution was made during Plenary presided by the Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun, in Osogbo.
The Resolution was reached after the Legislators spoke extensively on a issue of Personal Explaination raised by member Representing Irewole/ Isokan , Mr. Abiola Ibrahim who explained that his Constituency had more than a local Government, therefore, the need for additional Constituencies to bring Governance closer to the People.
Contributing in line with the Constitution, Member Representing, Boripe/ Boluwaduro, Mr. Simeon Popoola noted that the section 91 of the 1999 Constitution which states that a House of Assembly of a State shall consist of three or four time the number of seats which that State has in the House of Representatives this indicates that, Osun having 9 federal Constituencies is entitled to have between 27 and 36 Constituencies.
Other Lawmakers, including The Majority Leader,Mr. Adewunmi Babajide, Member Representing Ifelodun, Mr. Tajudeen Adeyemi, Member Representing, Atakumosa East/ West, Mr. Sanmi Areoye noted that additional Constituencies for the State became imperative to conform with the Constitutional provisions and had been longed overdued.
Aligning with the Legislators, The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun said the resolution of the House would be forwarded to the National Assembly for Consideration.
Also, Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board Amendment Bill scaled through its second reading, during the plenary.
