The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated a sum of ten million naira and one thousand bags of rice to the disengaged workers of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, OAUTH Ile-Ife, Osun state to ameliorate their suffering.
Recall that the disengaged staff were said to be owed salaries for the fifteen months they worked for, before their disengagement.
Oba Ogunwusi announced the donation while addressing the affected workers in his palace in Ile-Ife.
The traditional ruler assured them that he was working with relevant stakeholders including the Federal Ministry of Health among others to resolve the crisis.
Speaking on behalf of the disengaged workers, their spokesperson, Mr Samson Falope, explained that the hospital management served them a circular last week Wednesday, disengaging over 1,500 workers from their duty posts after serving the institution for about 15 months without any salary.
Mr Falope noted that the sacked workers had made attempt to seek an audience with the Management of the hospital but all to no avail .
The management of the Federal Government owned hospital had employed the workers in 2022 however, following discovery by the Federal Government that the management and some workers were involved in job racketeering, the affected workers were laid off.
Angered by the development, the affected workers besieged the hospital gates on Thursday morning, chanting songs to drive home their dissatisfaction, asking the management to rescind their decision.
