The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State branch, has debunked reports that a teacher at Soun High School, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, was killed by his students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours.
In a statement issued by the NUT State Secretary, Mr. Salami Olukayode, the union clarified that Mr. Adegoke died from a cancer-related illness which he had battled for a long time contrary to the claims being circulated on social media.

“The death of Mr. Adegoke has no connection whatsoever with any act of student indiscipline,” the statement read.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals are spreading misinformation without knowledge of his medical history.”
The union extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, and friends, praying that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest.
It also urged members of the public, especially social media users, to verify information before sharing, in order to curb the spread of fake news.
