Students of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Tuesday morning stormed the premises of the Institution protesting the name change from the Polytechnic Ibadan to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic Ibadan by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The students who carried placards, chanting solidarity songs blocked the South Gate of Institution leading to Sango, Ibadan

Two of the students who pleaded anonymity said they wanted the Instruction’s name restored, nothing that, they were sent home last Friday by their Departmental representatives ahead of the protest.

Reacting in an interview with Radio Nigeria, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Dr Soji Olatunji said the Instruction’s authority was engaging with the Student Union Leaders.
Dr Olatunji however noted that the Governor reserved the right to Change the name of the Polytechnic Ibadan in honour of the Pioneer Principal of the Institution, Dr Omololu OLUNLOYO.
Dr Olatunji explained that the protest had interrupted the Mid-term Computer Based Departmental Tests which was supposed to culminate into their Second Semester Examinations, adding that the Instruction’s authority was not informed that there was going to be a protest today.
Dr Olatunji, however maintained that the School authority was on top of the situation.
